Did you know an unbalanced skin’s pH causes a lot of skin issues?
Skin’s pH is more alkaline(pH over 5.5) : The skin is more dry, easily inflamed and feels tight.
Skin’s pH is more acidic (pH below 5.5) : The skin is more oily and symptoms of acne are present.
Skin’s pH is too acidic (pH significantly below 5.5): The skin is affected with chronic irritation problems such as eczema, psoriasis or rosacea.
Healthy skin has a slightly acidic pH of 5.5. The pH depends on the quality of a mixture of sebum and sweat on the skin’s surface called the “acid protective barrier”. It is due to the acidity of this acid barrier that bad bacteria and chemical products, generally of alkaline nature (pH above 7) will not penetrate the skin but instead be neutralized. If the skin is deprived of this acid barrier, bacteria and chemical compounds are easily able to penetrate the skin. This results in irritations, infections and can even set off an inflammatory phenomenon. It is therefore fundamental to preserve the quality of the protective acid barrier in order to maintain the pH balance of the skin.
Since water has a pH of 7 and your skin has a physiological pH of 5.5, it is important to rebalance the pH of your skin after cleansing. Use our Soothing Toner, which is alcohol-free with moisturizing and antioxidant ingredients, to restore and preserve the skin’s pH level.
Bear in mind that other factors, such as, poor diet, stress, smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, lack of exercise, sun exposure, inadequate skincare and not drinking enough water can destabilize the pH of the skin. Therefore, it is equally important to have a healthy lifestyle and use good quality skincare products.
